Cardi B Cancels Tour And Announces She’s Going On Maternity Leave For Undetermined Amount Of Time: “I Can Barely Breathe”

Cardi B fans who saw her at Coachella or who have tickets to this weekend’s Broccoli Fest in Washington, D.C. are going to be the last people to see her perform on stage for a very long time.

The rapper, who’s expecting her first baby shared with Offset, announced last night that she’s canceling all of her shows to concentrate on her pregnancy. In an Instagram story, the Cardi confirmed that this weekend’s Broccoli Fest will be her final gig “for a little while.”

“Because you know, shorty keep growing and I be looking like I be moving and everything, but in reality, a bitch can barely breathe,” she said, trying to catch her breath. “I can barely breathe right now. I’ve ate like six chicken wings, and I can barely breathe now.”

Riding off the success of her debut album Invasion of Privacy, Cardi was scheduled to appear at high-profile music festivals through the summer, including the big JMBLYA Festival in May, and New York City’s Panorama Festival in July.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Cardi fans though. Cardi vowed to be back on stage with Bruno Mars on his enormous 24K Magic Tour which begins this September, and she said she’s going to bring her and Offset’s newborn on the road.

“I’m taking my baby with me!” she told Jimmy Fallon while she co-hosted The Tonight Show earlier this month. Musicians have always brought their young kids on tour with them so hopefully this will all work out for Cardi.

Cardi B also posted this tweet: “Okay so i might be off from doing performances for a couple of months but in the meantime imma be working my ass off. So many songs, features to do. Working on a lot of deals i sign up for and most importantly nesting. Im already overwhelmed from the new work.”

Cardi will be be missing dates in Texas, Florida, Norway, and Ireland as well as the aforementioned American music festivals.

And this explains why she was caught filming three music videos two weeks ago, just days before she performed Coachella’s first weekend. When we reported on her busy video production schedule, we assumed it’s because she wanted to cram in as much promo work she could before her pregnancy put her out of commission. And now that she’s almost out of commission, we have a few new products from Cardi to look forward to: Her upcoming live gig at Broccoli Fest and a couple more music videos. If you recall, Cardi revealed she was pregnant on “Saturday Night Live” (April 7) on which she was the musical guest. She and Offset became engaged in October during the Power 99 Powerhouse concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where Offset got on one knee and proposed to her onstage in front of a full house.

Cardi was also named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people alongside Rihanna and Kesha. Is Cardi getting too much hype for being a rookie? Lots of observers say the accolades are unearned, but you can’t deny she’s changing the culture.
